Israel Kanner, PhD

Program Coordinator & Instructor

Israel is a lifelong practitioner, teacher, and scholar of Chinese martial arts and Qigong. He began his training in Israel and later deepened it in China and Taiwan. His interest in the theories and history of the practice drove him to pursue a Ph.D. from the School of History at Tel Aviv University (TAU), and his dissertation focused on the evolution of Chinese martial arts during Late Imperial China. Israel’s M.A focused on early Chinese philosophy.

Israel’s academic training allowed him to spend many years in Asia, where he mastered classical and modern Chinese. This knowledge allowed him to study martial arts and Qigong directly from local masters.

To further develop his understanding of the human body and mind, Israel currently studies Biosynthesis, a branch of Body Psychotherapy, at Broshim School of Complementary Medicine affiliated with TAU. Biosynthesis’s scientific and western-oriented framework integrates the physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of our being and complements the eastern systems of martial arts and Qigong.

Previously, Israel worked as a researcher at the Israel-China Policy Center in the Institute for National Security Studies. His research focused on Chinese politics and China’s strategic influence in the Middle East.
